In San Francisco’s Dogpatch neighborhood, a building that was once a sprawling Victorian barn gave way to Piccino, whose dining space retains the charming spirit of the original building while pairing it with crisper, more refined details. Warm-hued wood predominates throughout the space, lining the underside of the bar counter and parts of the ceiling, making up the tabletops in the dining area, and extending throughout the space in the varied-width black oak flooring underfoot. Above the bar, delicate pendant lights seem to float in space, dotting the air with bursts of light.

Exposed wooden rafters, slender and painted in a rich eggshell white, give the main dining space a sense of lofty expansiveness. Pendant lights in the shape of slightly flattened spheres, finished in the same shade of white as the beams and walls, hover high above the tables. An azure blue wall connecting a drop ceiling to the rafters backdrops the pendants, bringing an abstracted sky-scape into the restaurant’s fresh interior.
