As part of the Making Choices exhibition at the MoMA, the Paper Arch project departed from the previous architectural exhibits, which took place in the garden between 1940 and 1960. Instead of creating an experimental house, the focus of those earlier exhibits, an 87-foot-long, 30-feet-high experimental structure was designed to incorporate the entire Sculpture Garden. The paper arch is the longest paper structure ever to be built. During the course of the exhibition, shadow patterns created by the latticework structure dance across the garden and wrap around trees, flowers and sculptures.
