Neolith®, a brand of sintered compact surfaces, has been specified by architect Naia Eguino as part of the furnishing for Eneko Atxa’s internationally recognised Azurmendi restaurant in Larrabetzu, Spain.
The 3 Michelin starred restaurant is designed with sustainability in mind. The gastronomic space integrates a greenhouse with an orchard located on the roof of the building, making it possible to plant seeds, collect water for irrigation and generate electricity through sunlight.
In keeping with the environmental theme, Basalt Grey, from Neolith’s Fusion collection, was selected as part of the auxiliary furniture in the restaurant’s dining room due to its hygienic qualities, waterproof properties and for being 100% eco-friendly. The colour of the Neolith slabs provides an urban aesthetic to contrast with the natural surrounding environment.
Azurmendi’s interior combines the natural materials of wood with Neolith’s compact surface, enhancing the warmth and personality of the gastrodome’s atmosphere while producing a design where simple and clean lines predominate. The result is a restaurant with a distinct gastronomic identity and aesthetic diversity that offers the perfect balance between tradition and innovation.
Since Neolith can be directly placed on an existing surface, the material is suitable for all types of interior and exterior application. It is scratch and abrasion resistant, non-porous and therefore easy to clean, durable, and features chromatic properties so that its colour does not fade. Available in large sheets as standard (3600x1200mm and 3200x1500mm), the lightweight material can also be cut to meet the bespoke requirements of today’s interior design needs.
